Present assessments

Today, school districts use mid-year tests to assess progress along a one-size-fits-all schedule of learning tasks.

In addition, there is one annual standardized test (required by law), for apples-to-apples comparison across schools, districts and counties.

(We are in favor of this standardized test.)

Proposed assessments

Keep, obviously, the annual standardized test mandated by law.

Eliminate the mid-year tests, as they enforce teaching within a one-size-fits-all, follow-the-schedule method.

What is new:

School district management still requires measurement accountability.

What we propose instead of the one-size-fits-all mid-year tests is something very close to real-time assessment to evaluate the progress of students.

However, students will be measured on how they are actually doing — allowing assessment of abilities even above grade level.

The mechanism for accomplishing this efficiently is to be announced.

Schoolio will provide many books for each class very inexpensively.

One can’t learn at one’s own level without a good proficiency in reading.

Books are one part of a strategy of getting students not just to be able to read — but to love to read.

Many of the books will be classics.

Specifics for this program are to be announced.

Educators will be able to use online tools to combine educating with literature, history and science — all matched to the official curriculum, while allowing learning across grade levels within a class at a given grade level.

Schoolio will collaborate with professionals (retired and active) in the school district’s department of curriculum & instruction. They have a vast amount of knowledge of the curriculum and how it interrelates.
